This part of the collection is the result of a powerful and dynamic collaboration with filmmaker Beata Kotrášová, who simultaneously created a documentary about me while I painted her. Beata’s films are visually stunning, all in black and white, and range from staged, metaphoric works to deeply authentic documentaries. Her approach to filmmaking is often introspective, capturing self-portraits and reflections of those close to her through her lens. Our collaboration unfolded over a few months, working together in plein air and exploring the raw energy between us.
Beata, a sensitive person navigating the complexities of borderline disorder, channels her emotions and inner conflicts into her films. This collaboration was intense for both of us. Spending time with her gave me a new perspective on borderline disorder, which is often connected with heightened sensitivity and a powerful search for meaning. Despite the challenges of working with two strong, moody personalities, there was a sense of calm and understanding that made the experience both difficult and comforting. This series of paintings captures the essence of that collaboration and self-discovery.
